Shield-a-Badge With Prayer 

This is a prayer ministry for the City of Milton Police and Firefighters and their families. It began in Arlington, TX in 1996, and is now done in communities across the country. The goal is to provide Public Safety personal with spiritual support for their work. Here's how it works:
  • Come to worship or email shield@wadeintheriver.org to get involved.
  • You will be given a badge number of an actual Firefighter or Police Officer. 
  • You commit to praying daily (or at the minimum weekly) for this person for one year. Suggested prayer topics include 
    • Safety and protection
    • Strong, healthy family relationships
    • Patience and comfort as they do their duty
    • Wisdom and courage in their decision making
  • The police officers and firefighters will remain anonymous. However, you will know about their family status (i.e. married or single, number of kids, etc). so you can pray for their family too.
  • You will be asked to send them an anonymous note of encouragement at some point during the year. Multiple notes is even better!
  • A special email box has been set up so the officers and firefighters can submit any special prayer requests.

God may be calling you to start a ministry like this in your community!  To start a "Shield A Badge With Prayer" ministry, here's what we suggest:
  1. Contact your local public safety office. See if they are interested.
  2. Talk with the leaders of your church to let them know that you feel God calling you to start this ministry. Ask them to pray for you.
  3. Gather together a prayer team to pray for this ministry.
  4. Set a date to begin the ministry in worship. Invite the local public safety department.
  5. Make the worship that day not just a time for Prayer Partners to sign up for the ministry. Make it a day to celebrate and give thanks for what the public servants are doing.
  6. Regularly share stories of how this ministry has touched both the public servants and those who are praying.
