Wade Deeper into the Presence of God

About us

The River Church began gathering in homes in 2006 and have been worshipping together in our current location for a little more than a year. We meet at 501 S. Main St. in Alpharetta, near the Ferrari dealership. Click here for a map and directions.

Sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), The River Church was founded by Pastor Scott Seeke. As Pastor Scott has gone on the amazing journey of starting The River Church, he has also been on a journey as a writer. That journey will culminate with the release of his movie Get Low on July 30, 2010. Get Low, starring Robert Duvall, Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek, is based on true events from his wife's family. It is the story of a hermit who wants to have his funeral before he dies so he can hear what people are going to say about him.

Pastor Scott founded The River Church on the the idea that faith is a journey to experience and share abundant life, and to do that The River Church embodies the historic Christian faith in an authentic community where you can belong before you believe. We journey to experience and share abundant life three ways: Up, Out and In.

Abundant Life is Up, out and In

We journey to experience and share abundant life three ways. "Up" is in worship, gathering with others to thank and praise God for all we have been given. "Out" is in Missional Communities, groups of people with a shared passion serving others outside the church. "In" is small groups that meet weekly for bible study, prayer and individual training in how to experience and share abundant life.

"Up": Explore abundant life

Worship is a great place to start exploring how to experience and share abundant life. We encounter the living God, giving thanks and praise and letting God touch and change our hearts.  Every week there are snacks and coffee after worship so you can start making friends. Once each month there is a social lunch to further help you explore The River. Another way to explore abundant life is at "Beer and Bible" every other Wednesday. Finally, if you would like to meet Pastor Scott you can stop by Bagel Boys Cafe Wednesday mornings.  There are many ways to 'dip your toe' in The River Church and explore this journey to experience and share abundant life.

"out": Engage in Missional community

Once you have decided to make The River Church your church, the next step is to engage in a Missional Community.  Missional Communities are people with a shared interest in service who gather to love and help people in the community. You can read about our existing Missional Communities for adults here and for children and teens here. To discover which Missional Community is right for you, there is a six week bible study called "The Bridge." The Bridge starts June 6 and will meet at 11:45 a.m. on Sundays, right after worship.

"in": Be empowered and equipped in a small group

Small Groups of five to ten people meet weekly for bible study, prayer, and to mentor each other in how to experience and share abundant life. They are formed out of Missional Communities, so you will be with people you know already.
