Wade Deeper into the Presence of God
There are a lot of churches in Alpharetta and in Atlanta. Some are traditional with familiar songs played on an organ and Sunday School. Others are contemporary and worship with amazing rock bands and learning environments. Yet something seemed to be missing in our community. Where was the church in the world? And how was the transformative power of God working in that world? Sure, there are plenty of service projects and charities, but we read in the bible and in early church history about God doing amazing things. What amazing things was God doing today? We read in the bible about Jesus announcing that the Kingdom of God had come to earth. How was the Kingdom of God being set loose here and now? No one seemed to know.
The River Church began gathering in homes to find an answer to that question. We discovered that Jesus has a vision for our world where we live in perfect harmony and relationship with each other, God, and our world. It is what Jesus described as "The Kingdom of God." It is a way of being in our world that we get to experience occasionally but that has not yet come to fullness. What is even more amazing and beautiful about this vision is that God has chosen to bring it to life through us. Through you. God wants to remake and reshape the world through you. It is this vision that inspires us, and is summed up in our mission statement: In The River Church, faith is a journey to experience and share abundant life.
The three ways we live out abundant life are "Up, Out and In." The primary ways we experience those is in Worship, Service First and Second Sundays.
Worship is a great place to start exploring how to experience and share abundant life. We encounter the living God, giving thanks and praise and letting God touch and change our hearts. Every week there are snacks and coffee after worship to help you make friends.
The first Sunday of the month is Service First, when everyone in The River goes out to serve those in our community. Absolutely anyone is welcome. There are also other Missional Communities that serve at other times.
Once a month on the Second Sunday everyone in The River gathers for a meal. It is a time to get to know others and form relationships. There are also other, smaller gatherings throughout each month.
